Suitable Hardware for Twinmotion 2023

A Friendly & Affordable Twinmotion Cloud Render Farm

Twinmotion offers a different set of features. Each requires its System Requirement and PC Recommendation. Therefore, building a suitable configuration for Twinmotion is very important. For instance, if you’re a low-poly modeler, you can work with a far less powerful PC and most likely won’t experience any performance problems all day. However, if you are a professional Twinmotion user, you will work with quite complex projects, so make sure you get a powerful enough PC from the beginning.

Best CPU for Twinmotion

A CPU with a moderate number of cores and a high clock speed is ideal for Twinmotion. High-end processors from AMD’s Ryzen and Intel’s Core product lines are well-suited for these needs. Therefore, the best choices are AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX @ 3.90GHz, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, and Intel Core i9 13900K.

Best GPU for Twinmotion

The real-time Twinmotion 3D model display is handled by the video card. A project’s power should increase with its complexity.

You will typically get greater Twinmotion performance if your video card is faster. The fastest GPUs available for Twinmotion right now are the GeForce RTX 4090 (24 GB VRAM). However, if your budget is limited, the RTX 3090 (24 GB VRAM) offers powerful performance at a low cost.

Memory (RAM)

Although Epic specifies 16 GB as the minimum for Twinmotion, most users won’t get the best experience if they are using the very minimum. Therefore, we recommend 64GB since it meets Epic’s high-end requirements. However, 32GB will be fine if you work on small or average projects.

Storage (Drives)

We highly suggest solid-state drives (SSDs) for the primary drive that will host your operating system and the Twinmotion installation. SSDs are far faster than traditional hard drives at booting up, loading files, and launching apps.

Having a second SSD to store your ongoing projects is also a great option if your budget permits. And with Chip Render, you will have 1 TB of SSD which is an excellent place to start.

Path Tracer Requirements

A Friendly & Affordable Twinmotion Cloud Render Farm

Path tracer in Twinmotion is a progressive rendering mode that generates high-quality photorealistic renderings with accurate lighting and Global Illumination.

With every new update, Twinmotion enhances its Path Tracer capabilities. Twinmotion 2022.1 marked the release of the Path Tracer. Users can switch between offline rendering and real-time rendering to produce a similar final-pixel picture that is similar. Building on this base, the most recent Twinmotion 2023.1 version improves the Path Tracer in several ways.

Path Tracer in Twinmotion Doesn’t Work on Apple Computer

Twinmotion operates on the Unreal Engine, which offers Path Tracing features. Since Unreal Engine has not yet added support for Path Tracing on Apple devices, Twinmotion is unable to use the Path Tracer feature on macOS.

Path Tracer Requirements

To use Path Tracing in Twinmotion, your computer must meet the requirement following:

Operating System: Windows only, Path Tracer is not supported on macOS yet.

Graphic cards:

  • An NVIDIA GPU: RTX 2000 series or higher

Discover Twinmotion Lumen Global Illumination, a new feature in Twinmotion 2023.2.

Lumen is a new dynamic global illumination and reflection system introduced in the Twinmotion 2023.2 release. It provides highly accurate lighting and reflection in a real-time rendering environment.

In Twinmotion 2023.2, you will need to open the Properties panel in the Footer.

  • Under Ambience, click the Render tab > Real time button.
  • Under Global illumination, there are Standard and Lumen. Click the Lumen button to enable Lumen.

But, how is Lumen different from the default Standard Global Illumination? And what are its features? In this post, Chip Render will explore all about Lumen Global Illumination in Twinmotion.

What is Twinmotion Lumen?

Lumen is a cutting-edge real-time global illumination and reflections system tailored for your Twinmotion scenes. The Lumen system provides fully dynamic indirect lighting and reflections. Plus, it accurately simulates how light interacts with objects and how light and reflections transfer between objects. This significantly enhances global illumination and, thus realism.

This system allows indirect lighting to dynamically adapt to changes in direct lighting or geometry. Such as altering the angle of the sun with the time of day or opening exterior doors. As a result, it adds a higher level of realism to real-time applications, offering stunning stills and videos with a quality similar to path-traced rendering. More importantly, all can be achieved in a fraction of the time.

With Unreal Engine 5, UE broke new ground with its awe-inspiring dynamic global illumination and reflections system – Lumen. Since then, architects and designers have eagerly awaited its integration into Twinmotion, too. The time had arrived: With Twinmotion 2023.2, Lumen made its debut in Twinmotion, opening doors for incredible visual enhancements

Twinmotion Lumen Features

Lumen delivers to Twinmotion powerful and dynamic global illumination features with real-time performance. Let’s take a closer look at 5 features of Lumen.

1. Diffuse Indirect Lighting

Lumen global illumination delivers dynamic diffuse indirect lighting by continuously reflecting light from surfaces onto other nearby surfaces. Although each bounce has a large processing cost and affects render times, this behavior replicates reality, in which light bounces from one surface to another forever until the light source loses all energy.

  • Diffuse indirect lighting generates an effect named color bleeding.
  • If the original light source is colored, the bounced light will reflect that color onto other surfaces.
  • If the surfaces have a diffuse color, the bouncing light reflects that color onto adjacent surfaces as well.

Objects in the scene that block this diffuse indirect lighting will cast diffuse indirect shadows.

In the image above, you can see the difference in the Diffuse indirect lighting effect with and without Lumen. Image by Twinmotion.

2. Ambient Lighting

Lumen enhances ambient lighting and reflections for a more realistic feel. This includes illumination in scenarios with sky shadowing, in which indoor spaces are significantly darker than outdoor lighting.

Plus, Lumen offers global illumination for translucency and height fog effects. However, it is of lower quality for opaque surfaces.

Twinmotion Lumen Ambient Lighting

The image shows how Ambient lighting illuminates the scene’s height fog. Image by Twinmotion.

3. Emissive Materials

Lumen allows objects with emissive materials to bounce specular and diffused light to other surrounding objects. For instance, you could apply a material with emissive properties to a primitive object, such as a cube, and place it in the scene to provide lighting.

However, if the cube is too small and bright, noise artifacts might show up in the scene. Instead of employing objects with emissive materials to light a scene, using light sources from the Twinmotion Library is recommended.

Twinmotion Lumen Emissive Materials

The image shows a sphere with emissive material properties that illuminate the scene. The sphere is large enough for light to bounce correctly without causing noise artifacts. Image by Twinmotion.

4. Reflections

Lumen produces dynamic diffuse and specular reflections on materials with roughness values ranging from 0% to 100%.

Lumen enables multiple specular reflections (the reflection of light between two or more reflecting surfaces), controls skylight shadows, and gives glossy reflections on translucency.

Twinmotion Lumen Reflections

Discover what is Twinmotion and 5 reasons to use this 3D real-time visualization software.

Twinmotion is a cutting-edge real-time visualization tool. Powered by Unreal Engine, how powerful and easy is this software? In this post, Chip Render will explore all about Twinmotion and 5 reasons to choose this 3D real-time visualization software.

What is Twinmotion?

Twinmotion is a 3D real-time visualization tool powered by Unreal Engine. It empowers anyone, from architects, urban planners, and landscaping professionals, to designers working on consumer products, transportation, or even fashion, and beyond.

In short, Twinmotion is for anyone wanting to create stunning visualizations. You can quickly and easily produce high-quality images, panoramas, standard or 360° VR videos, and interactive presentations from design data.

What is Twinmotion used for?

With Twinmotion, creators can create high-quality visuals and appealing real-time experiences across industries. The industries that Twinmotion is mainly used are architecture, consumer products, transportation, fashion, and more.

Architecture

Architectural visualization is the main application of Twinmotion. Architects and designers, by using Twinmotion, can take the design from CAD or BIM software to photoreal high-resolution stills, film-quality videos, and captivating immersive experiences in minutes.

Automotive and Transportation

Twinmotion gives you the freedom to communicate your design faster and more effectively than ever before. More importantly, at the quality your clients expect.

Fashion

With Twinmotion, you can experiment in a real-time creative playground that turns ideas into inventory. And then, show off every aspect of your design in photorealistic quality.

Product design

This 3D real-time visualization software is a faster and easier way to express the potential of your idea, from real-time design reviews to stunning final-pixel imagery.

5 reasons to use Twinmotion - 3D real-time visualization software

1. Seamless integration

Twinmotion gives you seamless integration that will bring your design to experience in minutes, even in real-time.

What is Twinmotion - Seamless integration

It is compatible with many major CAD and BIM solutions such as Allplan, Archicad, BricsCAD, Revit, Rhino, RIKCAD, SketchUp Pro, SOLIDWORKS, and Vectorworks. You can import your scenes to Twinmotion with a single click and in a matter of minutes. Do you know what the best is? Your data is synchronized with no detail loss or headscratchers around where something went.

Moreover, you can keep refining the scenes in your favorite design software before exporting them to Twinmotion with a single click.

In addition, Twinmotion connects to Unreal Engine through a bridge. Therefore, you can even transform your initial ideas into advanced representations that stand out.

2. Real-time environment

Twinmotion, as a real-time visualization tool, enables you to work in context with real-time rendering. In other words, you can work at full photorealistic quality while developing and refining your design. All changes you make to your scenes will update in real-time. As a result, there is no more guesswork or waiting for renders. You may also jump into VR mode to see your idea on a human scale.

Moreover, real-time rendering in Twinmotion includes dynamic global illumination. So, you can immediately see the results of tweaking your lighting, and then create the exact mood you like, especially at the quality that your clients expect.

3. High-quality assets

Twinmotion offers an extensive asset library, with over 10,000 high-quality assets that you can just drag and drop into your scene. All assets are free, and some of them are “smart”. Smart Assets are objects with realistic features that activate automatically. For instance, trees grow, doors open, and people move, just as they do in real life.

What is Twinmotion - Asset library

The PBR materials in Twinmotion are also drag-and-drop. You just drag and drop any material – both manmade and natural – to achieve the desired effect, from cobblestones and non-slip flooring to water, sand, and mud.

In addition, Twinmotion’s library includes built-in access to both Quixel Megascans and Sketchfab. Megascans is a huge library of high-quality scans, while Sketchfab is a prominent 3D modeling platform online with over 660,000 free assets (and still growing).

4. Storytelling tools

Twinmotion comes with intuitive and powerful tools to help you with storytelling.

  • Time of day, seasons, and weather

Twinmotion enables you to better convey how your design will appear at any time of day, season, or weather. You can transition from day to night, from spring to winter, and from dry to rain or snow using simple sliders. Even the leaves will change color and fall from the trees.

What is Twinmotion - Storytelling tools

  • Growth and phasing

Buildings and landscapes are not built in a day. You may use Twinmotion to display the stages of a construction project over time, as well as how trees grow from saplings to maturity.

  • Nonrealistic rendering styles

You can convey the right story at the right time, with various push-button nonrealistic rendering methods like white models and hidden lines. Besides, you can use X-ray mode to reveal infrastructure and take slices through structures to show how space is used.

5. Exporting and sharing

Twinmotion offers Twinmotion Cloud, where you can share your project with anyone, anywhere in the world, with all of its details intact. Whether it is a fully navigable real-time 3D Presentation or a pre-rendered Panorama Set of your project. With Twinmotion Cloud, all clients need is a web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone to view your design.

Moreover, the ability to export 360° panorama videos enables you to provide viewers with a complete perspective. With VR mode (available in local Presentations and cloud-shared Panorama Sets), you can further immerse clients in your design, allowing them to watch and interact with it.

Another significant advantage of exporting with Twinmotion is the high level of quality. You can simply make final-pixel images, panoramas, and movies that rival offline renderings using the built-in Path Tracer and HDRI sky lighting. All of this without having to open another application.

What is Twinmotion - Export & share
